Quick Links for CSA Members:
There is no evidence according to the USDA , CDC , and FDA that the virus has ever spread through food or food packaging. Respiratory viruses reproduce along the respiratory tract—a different path than one’s digestive tract.
The virus can stay on packages for up to a day, and 3 days on plastic. The chance of transmission on a surface like plastic is highly unlikely, especially with the food safety protocols our staff are following. If it makes sense to you, transferring any of our products in plastic to clean containers at your home is always an option.
Both heat and cold will break down the pathogens. After 3 days in refrigeration, no pathogens were detected on lettuce after a similar respiratory corona virus was incubated intentionally on the lettuce leaves. Longer refrigeration for items that are not cooked, like herbs and lettuce, are another method for ensuring safe food.
Since the main risk for contracting the virus is being in proximity to people that are infected, whether they know it or not, our main concern is making sure to deliver your food in a way that ensures appropriate social distancing.
If you are unwell or have a temperature, please stay home. Send someone else to get your share instead! We ask you to use your own hand sanitizer and/or wash hands thoroughly prior to picking up your share.
Please give 6 feet of separation between you and the customer in front of you. We will have cones to provide appropriate spacing.
Staff will check you in and be present on site to answer questions, but expect us to be a safe distance from you. We will also be wearing face masks for your protection. We encourage you to wear face masks as well.
The UK CSA staff will temporarily pack shares in advance into single use bags. You will be able to grab your bag after checking in and then leave quickly. Due to the change in logistics, we will also temporarily suspend swapping veggies in a swap box.
If you are in the high risk category for COVID-19 or are concerned about exposure, a staff member will be glad to put your share bag in your car at our curb side delivery. See Pick Up Details and Maps.
Farm Stand sales will continue but we will ask you to insert your own credit card in our terminal. Credit card is the preferred method of payment.
Need to make a CSA payment? You can come to Thursday distribution and pick up to pay by cash, check, or credit card (Visa/Mastercard/AmEx/Discover). If you prefer to write a check, please make it out to “UKCSA” and drop off or mail to:
CSA Manager, N318 Ag Sciences Bldg North, University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY 40546.
You may also pay over the phone by credit card. Give the CSA Manager a call on Wednesday or Thursday from 12pm-1pm, or leave a message and you will get a call back.
You will receive a copy of the 2020 UK CSA Member Guide at the first pick-up this year. In this guide, there is important information such as pick-up locations, contact information, social media, important dates to remember and some brief storage information.
